Army Tech Entry

New SSB Batch starts on every Monday.

Written batches for CDS/NDA/AFCAT/TA/CAPF/SSC runs every month

For engineering graduates who dream of wearing the olive green uniform and leading from the front, the SSC (Technical) Entry into the Indian Army offers a rare and powerful opportunity. This entry allows technically qualified men and women to become commissioned officers without any written examination—purely through merit and the SSB interview process.

At Georgians Defence Academy, we prepare aspirants not just to clear the SSB, but to transform into confident future officers of the Indian Army.

What is SSC (Tech) Entry?

Short Service Commission (Technical) is a direct officer entry scheme designed for engineering graduates. Candidates selected through this route are commissioned as Lieutenants after completing professional military training.

This entry is open to both men and women, requires no written exam, and evaluates candidates solely on leadership potential, personality, and officer-like qualities.

Who Can Apply?

Candidates must be unmarried and fall within the age bracket of 20 to 27 years as on 01 October 2026. Applicants must hold an engineering degree in a notified stream, such as Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, IT, Civil, or other approved disciplines.

Final-year engineering students may also apply, provided they meet the eligibility conditions laid down by the Indian Army.

Vacancies and Application Timeline

A total of 30 vacancies are available under this SSC (Tech) entry for men and women. The online application window opens on 06 January 2026 and closes on 04 February 2026. Applications are accepted only through the official Indian Army recruitment portal.

Early application is strongly advised, as shortlisting is competitive and academic performance plays a key role.

Selection Process Explained

The SSC (Tech) selection process is structured to identify individuals with strong leadership potential and mental robustness.

The process begins with shortlisting by Army Headquarters based on academic credentials. Shortlisted candidates are then called for the five-day Services Selection Board (SSB) interview, conducted at centres such as Allahabad, Bhopal, Bengaluru, and Kapurthala.

The SSB includes screening tests, psychological assessments, group tasks, personal interviews, and a final conference. Candidates recommended by the SSB undergo a detailed medical examination as per Army standards. Final selection is based on merit, medical fitness, and availability of vacancies.

Training and Commissioning

Selected candidates undergo 49 weeks of rigorous military training at the Officers Training Academy, Chennai. The training focuses on physical conditioning, military leadership, tactical skills, and character development.

On successful completion of training, candidates are commissioned into the Indian Army with the rank of Lieutenant. Based on their engineering background and service requirements, officers may be allotted to technical arms such as the Corps of Engineers, Corps of Signals, or Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers, among others.

Salary, Allowances, and Benefits

SSC (Tech) Officers receive a competitive compensation package of approximately ₹17–18 lakhs per annum, along with a wide range of benefits. These include free medical cover for self and dependents, uniform allowance, travel concessions, annual leave, and opportunities for adventure and professional growth.

Beyond salary, the true value lies in the honour, leadership responsibility, and lifelong pride of serving the nation.

Engagement Period and Career Growth

Officers are initially commissioned for a Short Service tenure, with the option of extension. The first extension allows service up to 14 years, and further extensions may be granted as per prevailing policies.

Exceptional officers may also be considered for Permanent Commission, subject to merit, vacancies, and service requirements.

Why Choose SSC (Tech)?

SSC (Tech) is ideal for those who want a fast-track officer entry, meaningful technical roles, and leadership experience at a young age. It offers a perfect blend of engineering expertise and military command, without the pressure of a written exam.

It is not just a job—it is a way of life.
