    • The Maldives is a key partner for India in the Indian Ocean region and the two nations aspire to turn their cooperation into a modern partnership, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said.
    • Mr. Jaishankar's remarks came as he along with his Maldivian counterpart Moosa Zameer attended the handing over ceremony of Addu Reclamation and Shore Protection Project and inauguration of the 4-lane Detour Link road project facilitated by the Government of India under the Line of Credit (LOC) of EXIM Bank.
  2. PM Modi releases 109 climate-resilient seed varieties to boost farm yield, nutrition
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi released 109 high-yielding, climate-resilient, and biofortified seed varieties of agricultural and horticultural crops, aiming to enhance farm productivity and farmers' income.
    • Developed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), these varieties span 61 crops, including 34 field crops and 27 horticultural crops.
  3. India set to commission its second nuclear-missile submarine
    • India is preparing to commission its second nuclear-powered submarine, the INS Arighat, which will be equipped with nuclear missiles for strategic deterrence.
    • This comes as the country also seeks final approval for a project to build two additional nuclear-powered attack submarines, which will be armed with conventional weapons. The urgency behind these advancements is partly driven by China's expanding naval presence in the Indian Ocean Region.

  1. Australia tests advanced SM-6 naval air defence missile for first time
    • The Australian government said it had for the first time test-fired a Raytheon SM-6 missile from a Navy ship, a major step in acquiring and integrating the air-defence weapon into its inventory.
    • The HMAS Sydney conducted the test near the U.S. state of Hawaii as part of the Pacific Dragon 2024 exercise, Australia's defence ministry said, calling it a "significant milestone" in a deal first approved in 2021.
  2. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrives in Nepal on two-day visit
    • Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrived in Kathmandu on a two-day visit to discuss with the country's leadership and officials ways to further strengthen India-Nepal relations and advance the mutually beneficial ties with the Himalayan nation.Mr. Misri was received by his Nepalese counterpart Sewa Lamsal on his arrival in Kathmandu.
