1. Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS)
Overview
RMS are among the oldest and most prestigious military schools in India, managed by the Directorate General of Military Training, Ministry of Defence.
There are only 5 RMS in India (Chail, Ajmer, Bangalore, Belgaum and Dholpur).
First RMS was established in 1924 by King George V at Jallandhar which was later on shifted to Chail and Subsequently Ajmer, Banglore and Belgaum were established by the Government before independence.
RMS Dholpur is the only RMS established after independence.
These schools are run by ministry of Defence and serve as feeder institution for Indian armed forces. These schools prepare students for a future in the armed forces while providing excellent academics and extracurricular activities.

2. Sainik Schools
Overview:
Sainik Schools are a chain of schools established by the Sainik Schools Society under the Ministry of Defence.
Presently there are 35 Sainik schools and recently Government has brought few Private Schools under Sainik School society. They focus on preparing students for the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Indian Naval Academy (INA) exams.
Now admission for girls have also started in all the Sainik schools.
Fees of Sainik Schools are on a bit higher side if we compare it with RMS.
70% seats in sainik Schools are reserved for the students of that particular state. Reservations are also provided for SC/ST and OBC students in the admission process.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Class 6 Admission:
- Age: 10 to 12 years.
- Educational Qualification: The student must have passed Class 5.
- Open for both boys and girls.
- Class 9 Admission:
- Age: 13 to 15 years.
- Educational Qualification: The student must have passed Class 8.
- Open only for boys.
Selection Procedure:
- All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE):
- Subject
- For Class 6: Mathematics, Language, Intelligence, and General Knowledge.
- For Class 9: Mathematics, Intelligence, English, General Science, and Social Studies.
- Medium: English and regional languages for Class 6; English only for Class 9.
- Medical Examination :
- Candidates who qualify the AISSEE are required to clear a medical fitness test.

3. Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC)
Overview:
RIMC is an elite educational institution under ministry of defence which is located in Dehradun. It is unique because it enrols students in Class 8, providing a rigorous academic and military training environment.
RIMC entrance exams are conducted twice a year and it is the only school in India which two academic sessions are run in a year.
The seats in RIMC are reserved state wise. It is Known for its track record in serving as the feeder institution for officers in Indian Armed forces.
Admission for Girls students have started in RIMC after entry to National defence academy was opened for Girls Cadets.
Eligibility Criteria:

- Educational Qualification: The candidate must be studying in Class 7 or have passed Class 7 from a recognized school.
