My name is Yash Kalkal, and I live in Charkhi Dadri, Haryana. Growing up in Haryana, the presence of Army families was everywhere—making a career in the Armed Forces both prestigious and respected. My own family encouraged me to pursue this path. When my grandmother passed away, her last words to me were, “It’s sad that I won’t be able to see you become an army officer, but I am sure one day you will.”
Honestly, joining the Army wasn’t always my dream. I was focused on academics but unsure of my career direction. That changed in 10th standard when I watched a show called “Revealed: National Defence Academy.” Inspired by what I saw, I developed a strong passion for the Armed Forces and decided to prepare for the NDA exam—which I cleared with excellent grades.
I completed my 12th at Mother India Sr Sec School, Maraut, Jhajjar, again with top marks. After clearing my NDA exam, I consulted my cousin Ashish for advice on further preparation. He recommended Georgians Defence Academy.
Joining Georgians Defence Academy after my written exam turned out to be the turning point. Coming from a non-urban background, I lacked confidence in my English communication skills. The Academy offered an environment where I could develop my personality and enhance my communication. Regular group discussions and lectures helped me improve my vocabulary, sentence formation, and public speaking. I learned how to deliver my opinions effectively and efficiently.
The mentors at Georgians Defence Academy played a vital role in my growth. They refined my personality and built my confidence. I gained a deep understanding of the SSB interview process and what the Armed Forces expect from candidates. Psych classes with Deepak Sir brought clarity to my thoughts, while Mr. Kunwar Pratap Sir helped me structure my ideas and boosted my confidence.
One of the best parts of the Academy was its motivating environment. Surrounded by dedicated and cooperative students, I was always encouraged to give my best. When I finally cleared my SSB interview, it was a moment of true happiness and pride.
My experience taught me that discipline is the most important virtue, and the Indian Army is a place where everyone, regardless of background, has an equal opportunity. There’s no discrimination—just the drive to serve and learn. My interest in ethical hacking has grown, and I hope to pursue it further within the Army.
What I learned at Georgians Defence Academy has not only helped me clear the SSB but has shaped me into who I am today. I will carry these lessons for life.
“You should always know what you’re doing and just go for it.”
Thank you.
