1. Indian Ocean 'SAGAR' Initiative: Second Edition

The Indian Navy successfully organized the second edition of the Indian Ocean Ship SAGAR Initiative in March 2026. This maritime exercise focuses on enhancing regional security and fostering "Security and Growth for All in the Region."

  • Exam-Centric Facts:
  • SAGAR Vision: Launched in 2015, SAGAR stands for "Security and Growth for All in the Region." It is India’s strategic vision for the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
  • Objective: To deepen economic and security cooperation with maritime neighbors and assist in capacity building.
  • Strategic Importance: This initiative is a key pillar of India's Maritime Doctrine and acts as a counter-balance to increasing external footprints in the IOR.
  • Member Participation: The second edition saw increased participation from "Vanilla" islands (Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles) and IORA members.

2. RISA: Global Branding for Tribal Crafts

The Central Government has officially launched RISA, a dedicated brand designed to take India's timeless tribal crafts to international markets. This "Timeless Tribal" brand aims to standardize quality and provide a global identity to indigenous products.

  • Exam-Centric Facts:
  • Origin of RISA: "Risa" is a traditional handwoven cloth from Tripura, typically used by tribal communities as a headgear, stole, or upper garment. It recently received a GI (Geographical Indication) Tag.
  • Implementing Agency: The brand is promoted by TRIFED (Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development Federation of India) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
  • Marketing Strategy: RISA follows the "Vocal for Local, Global for Tribal" mission to ensure fair pricing and eliminate middlemen for tribal artisans.
  • Significance: It helps in the socio-economic empowerment of Scheduled Tribes (STs) while preserving India's intangible cultural heritage.

3. Kalinjar Fort Area: National Geo-Heritage Site

The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has officially declared the area surrounding the Kalinjar Fort as a National Geo-Heritage Site. This designation recognizes the unique geological formations and rock structures that form the foundation of this historic site.

  • Exam-Centric Facts:
  • Geological Significance: The area is known for its Vindhyan Supergroup sedimentary rocks, showcasing rare structural features that provide insight into the Earth’s crustal evolution.
  • Historical Context: While the fort itself is a protected monument under the ASI, the GSI status protects the natural geological terrain surrounding it.
  • Location Clarification: Note that the Kalinjar Fort is located in the Banda district of Uttar Pradesh (near the border of Madhya Pradesh). It was a strategic stronghold for various dynasties including the Chandela Rajputs.
  • GSI Mission: The Geological Survey of India (established in 1851) designates such sites to promote "Geotourism" and ensure the conservation of rare geological features.
