  1. Indian Army inducts 40 heavy duty hydraulic mobile cranes for disaster management
    • The Indian Army inducted 40 heavy-duty hydraulic mobile cranes from Tractor India Limited to undertake operations during disaster management with better efficiency.
    • These versatile, new age and high-tech cranes will enhance the operational preparedness of Combat engineers and also enable them to undertake arduous tasks during disaster management.
  2. Navy announces latest edition of THINQ, theme for 2024 contest 'Viksit Bharat’
    • The Indian Navy announced the latest edition of its national level quiz competition, THINQ, with the theme for the contest this year being 'Viksit Bharat'. The event provides a unique opportunity of nurturing intellectual growth and inspiring young minds while instilling a sense of pride and patriotism in our rich cultural heritage, a Navy spokesperson said in a statement.
    • "The resounding success of the first two editions, i.e., THINQ-22 and G20 THINQ (which saw participation of G20 countries last year), has encouraged Indian Navy to continue with the initiative," it said.
    • This year, the theme of THINQ2024 is 'Viksit Bharat' aligned with the government's vision to transform India into a developed nation by 2047 by the 100th year of Independence.

    • India and the USA partnership is shaped by commerce, technology, people and security, opined experts at a two-day meet organised last week.

  2. India is a 'strategic partner’, says Pentagon
    • India is a "strategic" ally, and the United States is looking forward to continuing to develop that partnership, the Pentagon has said. Pentagon Press Secretary Pat Ryder made the remarks at a press conference in Washington.
    • “India is a strategic partner, and we look forward to continuing to develop that partnership,” he told reporters in response to a question.
  3. NASA sends a Missy Elliott song to Venus at the speed of light
    • Missy Elliott has broken lots of boundaries, but until recently they were all Earth-based.
    • Last week, giant radio towers transmitted her song "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)" to Venus for the benefit of whatever life-forms might have been around, or not, to listen.The July 12 transmission, announced by NASA was made at the speed of light. It took the song 14 minutes to travel 158 million miles to Venus, Elliott's favorite planet.
