1. BCA President Harsh Vardhan Honoured at the UK Parliament

Harsh Vardhan, the President of the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA), was conferred with the prestigious Global Prestige Award at the House of Lords, UK Parliament, in London.

  • The Theme: The awards ceremony was organized under the central theme "Visionaries of Change: Charting the Course to Viksit Bharat 2047", recognizing prominent Indian leaders who are contributing significantly to transforming India into a developed nation by its centenary of independence.
  • Historic Leadership: Elected unopposed in September 2025, Harsh Vardhan is the youngest president in the history of the Bihar Cricket Association.
  • Grassroots Impact: The award acknowledges his aggressive push toward elevating the grassroots cricket ecosystem in Bihar, which has catalyzed the meteoric rise of young, record-breaking local talents such as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Akshara Gupta in domestic circuits.

2. Historic Hemis Festival Begins in Ladakh

The annual two-day Hemis Festival (also known as Hemis Tsechu) commenced at the historic Hemis Monastery, located approximately 45 kilometers southeast of Leh in Ladakh.

  • The Significance: Celebrated on the 10th day of the fifth month of the Tibetan Lunar calendar, the vibrant festival marks the birth anniversary of Guru Padmasambhava, the 8th-century spiritual master who is revered for introducing Buddhism to the Himalayan and Tibetan regions.
  • The Sacred Cham Dance: The defining highlight of the celebration is the Cham Dance performed by the resident Lamas (monks) in the monastery’s central courtyard. Dressed in heavy, colorful silk brocades and elaborate mystical masks, the monks dance to the rhythm of traditional drums, cymbals, and long horns, symbolically depicting the victory of good over demonic forces.

3. Tamil Nadu Announces 'Thaaimaaman Thanga Mothiram' Scheme

The Government of Tamil Nadu officially issued executive orders to implement the flagship welfare initiative titled 'Thaaimaaman Thanga Mothiram' (Maternal Uncle's Gold Ring) Scheme.

  • The Scheme Mandate: Under this initiative, every newborn child born in government hospitals and government primary health centers to permanent residents of Tamil Nadu will be gifted a 1-gram gold ring.
  • Cultural Background: The program draws deep inspiration from the traditional Tamil custom of 'Thaai Maaman Seer', where a maternal uncle presents valuable gifts to welcome a newborn into the family. By launching this program, the state government symbolically assumes the role of the caring maternal uncle.
  • Financial Scope: The state has made an annual budgetary allocation of ₹755.83 crore for the program, which expects to cover over 4.41 lakh institutional deliveries a year. Though the formal distribution launch is scheduled for September 15, 2026 (to mark the birth anniversary of former CM C.N. Annadurai), the government clarified that all infants born in government facilities on or after June 22, 2026, are eligible to receive the benefit retrospectively.
